Over 700 people within the year received Albanian citizenship, mostly from Kosovo

The majority of them are asylum seekers from Afghanistan, with nearly 298 people, while 19 asylum seekers have registered from Syria -- significantly lower than in 2020 -- when the citizens of this country dominated most asylum seekers in Albania along with asylum seekers from Iraq.
According to statistics, the score of asylum applications in Albania has been marked during the months of September-November, also impacted by the political situation in Afghanistan.
Refugees who come to Albania have the right to seek asylum, and those who are accepted have the opportunity to stay in host centres set up for asylum seekers.
Meanwhile, during the past year there are 711 people have gained Albanian citizenship, almost twice as much as compared to 2020.
Most of them are citizens of origin from Kosovo who have obtained Albanian citizenship, followed by Turkey, Syria and Italy, and dominated senior age groups from 30 to 39.
Meanwhile, the number of people leaving citizenship resulted even higher with 724 cases of persons who gave up Albanian citizenship. /Syrinet/
