What is known is that large numbers of illegal weapons circulate into Kosovo.
However, a considerable number of Kosovars have taken care to be equipped with permission for weapons they carry.
Such are 36 thousand and 15 citizens.
These are official statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
MPB said about RTV Dukagini that the legalisation process will continue further.
“The MPB has carried out a period of legalisation of weapons (where 2,000 requests have been submitted) and plans as soon as possible to announce legalisation and weapons surrender campaigns depending on the performance of policy drafting. 1800 approvals have been issued in the legalisation process. Kosovo has had strategy for small and light arms 2017-2021 and is in the process of adopting the new 2022-2024) strategy, MPB has said.
Such a policy views the security field connoisseur Drizan Shala as positive.
According to him, illegal weapons pose no danger to Kosovo citizens.
“Any weapon passing administrative procedure and permission to be used by their users, by the owners, where it is known that the permits issued by the Interior Ministry are reserve permits, permits for select weapons collection, so these weapons pose no danger to Kosovo citizens. Because those who get permission must pass a security filter”, Shala has indicated.
Shala, however, criticises the Ministry for complicated procedures for possession equipment.
The “to have an administrative cut where to equip with a weapon that citizens use for recreation does not have an extended” procedure, he added.
Based on statistics in Kosovo, there are about 250,000 illegal weapons in possession of citizens.
Each year, police seize an average of 1,500 illegal weapons.
