On Thursday, temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius have been marked in some parts of France, and they are expected to increase further on Saturday.
Such heat has never been recorded in France this time of year.
The French Interior Ministry has warned people to be extremely careful and not expose themselves to this hot weather.
Weather authorities have said France is facing such weather because of the hot air carried from the north of Africa.
Scientists say extreme heat periods are becoming more frequent and are taking longer as a result of global warming.
Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom are also registering high temperatures.
Spain, which has registered the hottest day of May from the start of the century, is expected to register temperatures of up to 43 degrees Celsius this weekend, according to meteorologists.
