Wednesday, June 22nd, is commemorated in both Russia and Ukraine as the “Day of Memory and Sadness”, the anniversary of the day when Nazi Germany of Adolf Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. Some 27 million Soviet citizens died in World War II.
In Russia, President Vladimir Putin is expected to place flowers on a memorial torch for victims. World War II plays an important role in Russian propaganda on the invasion of Ukraine, which Putin calls a <x0-cyphoperation special “to root out “the ultrax3>.
To mark the anniversary, the Russian Defence Ministry published documents dating back to the beginning of World War II, when Germany claimed that the Soviet Army was bombing churches and tombs to justify its conquest.
“As nowadays, in 1941, the Nazis prepared provocations in advance to discredit our state”, Russia's Defence Ministry said.
Kiev and the West see this as a groundless excuse for a war aimed at restoring Moscow's rule over its neighbour and eliminating Ukraine's identity as an independent nation.
“Bombardo at 4:30 in the morning. Stopped the word <x1) He blamed other countries for unprotested aggression. Future psychiatrists will consider: how after the construction of World War II cult for years, Russia began to recreate bloody pages of history and Nazi steps”, Ukraine's presidential adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, wrote on Twitter.
