Kosovo's tuberculosis patients increase

Pulmology Clinic Director Musa Hoxha says that during 2022 there is a tendency to increase new cases affected by tuberculosis. Currently, at this clinic at the University Centre of Kosovo, 16 patients suffering from the disease are lying there. Only in the first five months of this 73 [...]

Pulmologist Hoxha expressed pandemic COVID-19 has influenced new cases of tuberculosis not to be identified in time.

We have more cases of tuberculosis per day and lung cancer... It's a tendency and a trend has an increase in both cancer and tuberculosis as a tendency at the moment we have a department B that almost 99% are tuberculosis... There's about 16 people with tuberculosis... The number of those with lung cancer is 12-13 at the moment”, Hoxha stressed.

Hoxha, in an interview for Kosova Prees, considers the fact that ages 20 to 30 are mainly affected by tuberculosis.

It is worrying that a significant number are among patients aged 20 to 30 years now, the number of new ages has shown a growth trend”, said counterpart Hoxha.

Speaking of therapies we get patients with tuberculosis, Hoxha said they are currently in the latest stocks of anti-tuberculars, but believes the supply will be made soon.

It's been a very satisfying supply, but even now we've generally got major drugs here, and we may sometimes lack some vitamin grass or something that doesn't carry weight... Currently, we are in the latest stocks and from information from the Global Fund says the supply will soon become anti-tubercular”, Hoxha stressed.

Although in Kosovo the number of new but active cases with COVIID-19 is low, Pulmology Clinic Director Musa Hoxha says that at this clinic they are continuing to seek help from post patients - CO VID.

“At the moment there are some 28 cases in office - CO VID, as those cases are known, is that during COVID, there have been serious cases of massive pneumonia and that need to treat oxygen therapy and that have co-operative diseases of cardiovascular and diabetes. So those cases occur that from time to time, we are returned as rehopirtalization”, he said.

In the Pulmology Clinic, medical treatment is currently taking 63 stable patients.
