Iranian Foreign Minister Josein Amirabdullahian and EU Minister Josep Borrell announced during a press conference, following a <x0-> long but positive” talks, that they have agreed that indirect talks between Tehran and Washington will resume within days.
Amirabdullahian told reporters that, for Iran, what matters most is that he can enjoy the full economic benefits promised on the basis of the initial agreement.
“We hope, namely, that this time the American side will be directly and fairly engaged in committed and responsible actions towards reaching the final point of a” agreement, he said.
Borrell also welcomed the resumption of talks, saying a restored nuclear agreement would benefit the region and the world.
He also said he would like to return to Iran in the future, apparently when US sanctions are lifted, to further discuss “top potential” of expanding trade and energy ties between Iran and the EU.
Relaunched talks will target “resolving the last outstanding issues”, he said in a series of tweets after the press conference, without specifying details.
Iran and the United States, which unilaterally abandoned the agreement in 2018 and imposed severe sanctions, had been in a quandary of how to revive the Joint General Action Plan (JCPOA), as the nuclear agreement is officially known
