Hill: US supports “Open Balkans”, is no idea to replace EU membership

US Ambassador to Belgrade Christohher Hill has said that America supports the initiative of the Open “Balkan” because it creates models of co-operation among Western Balkan countries and that this has been why he has participated in the Ohrid summit held this week. “The US supports [...]
“The US supports all efforts aimed at regional integration, and this initiative is an attempt that has come from the region itself and went further than all previous”, Hill said after visiting a technology laboratory in Belgrade, RTV, broadcasts the Express.
The Hill had given this response after being asked by <x009-2 body” for the reason his presence at the Open Balkans Summit in Ohrid and about how he sees the comments made that the initiative is a substitute for EU membership.
Hill has said that the “Open Balkans initiative” can be an alternative to European Union membership.
He has said that “Open Balkan” is primarily focused on economic activities, but also connects parts of the region and sets models for further co-operation.
Look at how many border and border crossings there are only in this part of the Balkans, and when you enter the EU there are none. They need to connect and unite these countries, not be a problem, so that's a very good idea”, Hill said.
The American diplomat has said she would not be interested in the Open Balkans initiative if it were a parallel alternative to that of EU membership.
I would not personally be interested in the Open Balkans initiative if it was just an alternative to EU membership”, it stressed away Hill.
