Germany's envoy message to Kosovo: Do not give up, liberalisation will happen

Regarding this summit's expectations for the Western Balkan countries, especially for Kosovo, Sarrazin stressed that he has expected results, because, as he said, in Germany much has been working for visa liberalisation.

“But we will not stop the battle”, he said in RTK.

Among other things in the intelligence warehouse “Last News”, the European Council stressed that the Western Balkans' perspective towards the EU has been given.

On the other hand, he also spoke of Western Balkan leaders who have felt disappointed by the EU summit, which, according to him, does not feel reasonable in opposing their judgments, adding that everything must be done to move towards the EU.

Meanwhile, regarding the idea of separate division of Albania and North Macedonia, to move towards the EU, Sarrazzin added that Germany does not support this idea.

“We are for opening negotiations for both countries as soon as possible”, he stressed.

Sarrazin also spoke of the Open Balkans, clarifying that it comes from a country that started with the Berlin Process, but that for the Open Balkans, if such initiatives are inclusive and leading to the EU, then should be supported.

He further clarified that such initiatives would not be necessary if they were medium-stepd.

In this case, he cited the common market, as an idea offered by the six Western Balkan countries, then the border issue -- these were also ideas at the Berlin Process.

Sarrazin also spoke of the energy agreement between Kosovo and Serbia as a positive step, encouraging leaders of the two countries to continue with this step.

Sarrazin speaking of EU countries reluctant to make the visa liberalisation decision for Kosovo, said there are those changing positions, taking Holland as an example. He encouraged Kosovo officials not to give up.

“Hope is always there, it should always be, but you see that attitudes are changing, like Holland. Germany will be committed to working with our allies so that this process can be carried out just as Kosovo” deserves, Sarazin said.

The German diplomat denied the idea of linking Kosovo-Serbia dialogue with visa liberalisation, stressing aloud that such interconnection is absurd.

I don't see any connection between these two issues, these are processes with clear criteria. To be tasked with this process with political criteria, it kills the European idea. There is no interconnection, it would be crazy to do this”, Saraz said.

“The EU membership issue is related to dialogue, not to visa liberalisation”.
