Speaking on behalf of the Eurodeputs, Metsola said visa liberalisation for Kosovo and the opening of negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia should take place.
“Today is a historic day for two reasons; because this morning we will have a summit with the Western Balkans and I want to say a few words on behalf of the European Parliament. Enlargement is always seen as a transformational process for countries that want to see Europe as their home, and today is the day when we have to start membership negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia, we should always talk about granting visa liberalisation to Kosovo. These are the points that will be spoken within the summit, because this is the day when we should look towards the Western Balkans as countries that are our neighbours and countries that need to find themselves in the European Union, which is their” home, she said before reporters.
She said enlargement should also be seen in the shadow of the war under way in Ukraine and for the EU to establish geopolitical security.
