U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Trus has warned China that any attempt to invade Taiwan would be “a strategic miscalculation”, writes The Independent, past Periscope.
Speaking at the NATO Summit in Madrid, Truss said Beijing is jeopardising to make the same mistake that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made in Ukraine.
She said Western leaders should ensure Taiwan- which has been claimed since the time from China- that there are necessary measures to protect itself.
I think that with China's influence increased through economic action and military co-operation, there is real danger that they are relying on a misconception that would result in wrong calculations, such as the invasion of Taiwan”, she said.
This is exactly what we've seen in the case of Ukraine -- a false strategic calculations from Putin. This is important for free world to work together to ensure Taiwan is able to defend itself and stress the importance of peace and stability around Taiwan Bay”. /Periscopi/
