Despite war, Ukraine exports over 1 million tonnes of cereals in April

Ukraine has planted nearly 7 million hectares of land by April, or 25-30 percent less compared to the same period last year. It also exported 1.09m tonnes of grain in April, Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solsky said. He said grain exports are being made through Romania, as Russia [...]
He said cereal exports are being made through Romania, as Russia is blocking Ukrainian ports, but added that these exports could be difficult in the next two months because grain harvested should also be exported to Romania and Bulgaria.
The production of cultures is actively continuing despite difficulties mainly related to logistics”, Solsky said during a news conference on May 9th.
During this year, according to the Ukrainian minister, fewer cornfields have been planted.
He said the Russian invasion, which started on February 24th, has increased instability in international financial markets, increasing goods prices and affecting logistical aspects.
Before the war, Ukraine was the fourth largest exporter in the world of corn, while in 2020-21, it had been the sixth world grain exporter.
The UN Food Agency said last week that almost 25 million tonnes of cereal have been blocked in Ukraine and cannot be exported due to the challenges in infrastructure and blockades in Black Sea ports. / REL
