Over 3 thousand and 600 signatures have been collected so far in the petition for visa liberalisation for Kosovars, initiated by the European Union's local adviser, Katie Schneeberger.
The petition, launched in change.org, aims to convince EU sceptical states of visa liberalisation for Kosovo citizens as early as possible. The initiative's reasoning is that Kosovo citizens should be more isolated.
“Although Kosovo has testified to the fulfillment of all conditions, visa liberalisation continues to be rejected by two EU member states France and the Netherlands.
Visa liberalisation for all other Balkan countries, as well as Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, has been realised for several years.
It is time for even Kosovo citizens to have the opportunity to enter the EU without the need to apply for visas. Meanwhile, visa-free entry is possible for all EU citizens in Kosovo. This inequitable treatment has to end. Kosovo citizens should no longer be isolated. Therefore, we call for a decision on visa liberalisation for Kosovo at the next EU summit in June 2022”, the initiative's rationale said.
Schneerberger's initiative has also supported the former European Parliament President Lunacek. Lunacek has said Kosovo citizens should no longer be excluded from the opportunity to visit friends and families in the EU.
“An important initiative, please sign and distribute: Kosovo citizens should no longer be excluded from the opportunity to visit friends and families in the EU”, Lucacek wrote.
