The Ukrainian people, with our help of security, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia's unjustified invasion and, as a result, the Stars and the Shirits are waving back over the embassy”, said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“We proudly stand side by side, and continue to support the government and the people of Ukraine, as they defend their homeland from the war and brutal aggression of the Kremlin”.
The US State Department closed the embassy in Kiev on 14 February, 10 days before Russian troops crossed the border in an effort to overthrow the Ukrainian government and install another in line with Moscow politics.
American diplomats continued to offer services from the western city of Lviv, sometimes staying overnight in neighboring Poland because of security concerns.
Returning to Kiev came weeks after Ukrainian forces defeated Russian efforts to take over northern Ukraine and the capital, as the war focused on the east and south of the country.
“TexaWe take this important step, we have presented additional measures to increase the security of our colleagues returning to Kiev and improved our security measures and protocols”, Blinken said. / REL/
