A 16-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman have been killed at the Tro Tardi Centre in the town of Alblasserdam, east of Rotterdam.
Dutch police have later arrested the suspect in a nearby park.
A 13-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman have been seriously injured, until the fifth person is easily injured.
Dutch radio has said ambulances have arrived at the land and air attack site.
The suspect has been arrested and the weapon seized. We're providing care for witnesses”, Rotterdam police say through a statement.
Police have said later that the suspect, currently in custody, has been on the run from Thursday evening, when authorities have been calling for him because of the death of a 60-year-old in a store southwest of Rotterdam.
Police have said no clear motives for Friday's attack are known. /rel/
