Another meeting in Brussels for license plates, issue of missing persons expected to be discussed

The new round of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue will be held 13 May in Brussels. Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi and the director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in Serbia, Petar Petkovovic, will try Friday to find a solution for vehicle plates, energy in the country's north and missing persons. The meeting for Kosova Prees has confirmed by the European Union and the Office of Bislim, while connoisseurs of the dialogue process are optimistic about reaching a deal between the two countries after last week's meeting of Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Vuciq in Berlin, Germany.
EU spokesman Peter Stano said the upcoming meeting of the chief negotiators in addition to discussions on reaching the agreements is also aimed at preparing the next high-level dialogue meeting.
The EU-brokered “Dialog will continue on Friday (May 13th) with a meeting at the level of chief negotiators in Brussels. The goal is to continue discussions on finding a way forward to a range of issues and prepare the next high-level dialogue meeting. All topics discussed at the recent meeting of the chief negotiators in April will be on the agenda again, especially license plates, energy and missing persons”, Stano says.
Numerous details for the meeting have not provided by Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislim's office, but only announced the topics expected to be discussed in Brussels.
On May 13th, Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi will attend the next meeting in Brussels. At this meeting, it is expected to discuss the topic of license plates and energy”, Klisman Kadiu from Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi's office says.
On the other hand, Arber Fetah from the Group for Jury and Political Studies says the meeting of two Balkan leaders Kurti and Vuciq with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has given a new dynamic to Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
According to him, conditions have now been created on the ground to have a final agreement on vehicle plates, but to make progress on the issue of the undiscovered and energy in the north.
“Taking into account the previous meeting was also seen as lacking a kind of willingness of Serbia to reach a final agreement on plates, but consider that the context has changed over Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, especially with Kurti and Vuciq's visit to Berlin. There we saw some kind of new stimulus and incentives from Germany and the EU in particular. In view of this kind of re-enactment of dialogue and meeting in Berlin, we consider that conditions on the field are to have a final agreement on the plates, as the interim agreement proved to be successful. Now the situation in the field is created to have a final agreement, and the blockade of free movement does not coincide with Kosovo and Serbia. It would be an additional stimulus and interest if we had an agreement on energy (in the north) and the found. At these two points we expect a short-term, or mid-term”, he says.
While, the connoisseur of the dialogue process, Gazmir Racci, tells Kosovo that the Serbian side at the 13 May meeting is interested in having some agreements in the package under the license agreement for the plates.
“If the Serbian side is in favour of having agreement only for the license plates, as according to information the Serbian side is interested in having some agreement in the package under this agreement, see how to make final compromise... The parties now need to concentrate on the highest level of dialogue to reach the final agreement and put aside technical issues, as they are only becoming a hurdle, but there is also the possibility of raising tensions on both sides of the” border, he says.
Last month, agreement on vehicle plates between Kosovo and Serbia failed to be reached. Last week, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq held a meeting in Berlin, where the government leader said he was discussed possible agreements that will be reached at the chairmanial meeting.
