The European Union has already implemented the decision to ban imports of Russian coal, while oil and gas supplies are more difficult to replace, and discussions on further sanctions are under way.
Germany has been criticised by Kiev, as well as by other EU member states, for its dependence on Russian fossil fuel supplies and delaying a decision to impose an embargo on Russian products.
Only Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Greece appear to be resisting the embargo on Russian oil”, according to sources.
EU member states in the northern part, governments are apparently concerned about their considerable dependence on Russian oil supplies, while countries in the southern part, governments are said to be more concerned about rising energy prices.
The reason for the change in Germany's position is thought to lie in its latest successes related to finding alternative oil suppliers.
