This figure represents a new record since the establishment of Customs inflows at this period of year has exceeded the estimated 500m euros. Comparison to last year shows that Customs has collected up to May 19th 500.1m euros until last year we had collected 434.4m euros, respectively, in terms of 15% more or 66m euros more. And compared with the budgetary revenue collection project for 2022 customs has exceeded 6.11% more. The positive trend the customs had during the year 2021 has continued during 2022”, says the Kosovo Customs Community.
But these revenues according to economic expert Safet Gerjaliu should not pride Kosovo institutions.
It's good news, but it doesn't bring euphoria. The increase in customs revenues is thanks to inflation and price hikes. Not only Europe, but the world is facing similar problems. The increase in revenues for Customs does not improve the lives of Kosovo citizens”, he told RTKlive.
According to him, Kosovo is an imported state. This growth is good for the state, but not for Kosovo citizens as well. Kosovo is importing inflation, rather than increasing the welfare of citizens. If we have record economic growth and positive indicators and don't have a rise in welfare”, he said.
Gerjaliu said we should have budget revision and should not wait. This inflation will affect what many did for Kosovo, so our diaspora, who lives in Western countries. It is disturbing that the stagnation has also taken on disturbing proportions”, he said.
