UN: World food prices have marked slight decline

World food prices have seen slight declines during April, after marking record levels in March, the UN food agency said on Friday. In the Food and Agriculture Organisation food prices index, which follows all global food prices trends, the price rate reached [...] in April.
World food prices have seen slight declines during April, after marking record levels in March, the UN food agency said on Friday.
In the Organisation for Food and Agriculture food prices index, which follows all global food prices trends, the price rate in April reached 158.5 points, compared to 159.7 points in March.
This small drop in the index is a welcome relief, apart for low-income and food deficit states. But food prices continue to be close to recent record figures, and this reflects the continuing tightening of the market and presents a challenge to global food safety for the most sensitive categories of”, Maximo Teroro Cullen from this organisation said.
Even though prices have been marked, if the figures are compared to last April, then world food prices are 29.8 percent higher, as concerns about the impact the Russian invasion of Ukraine will have on world markets.
