The European Union plans to impose an embargo on Russian oil in the next six months, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyeen said this morning.
However, Hungary and Slovakia will be able to buy Russian oil by the end of 2023 under current conditions, according to EU sources. That means both countries will be excluded from the full embargo proposed by the European Commission, Sky News reports.
EU leaders have demanded ban on oil imports from Russia over the next six months and other oil products by the end of the year.
The proposal for the sixth round of sanctions against Russia must be backed by all member states, and this is likely the subject of fierce debate.
