The confession of the Ukrainian student who seized weapons to fight: Friends die in your arms

Last week he made a difficult trip outside the Donbas front line, using the rear roads at night to avoid artillery fires, take supplies to his unit and show how it was to fight with the Russians.

For three weeks, Maxsym and his friends had struggled to maintain control of a position they called Serb. It was in a former factory destroyed in Rubinzhne, a town that eventually fell into the hands of the Russians.

His unit was targeted by tanks at around 25 times a day, he says.

Maxsym, a biology student and fellow of the University of Dmytro Kisilenko, an 18-year-old studying economy, were registered to fight soon after Russia began its conquest.

We can't meet women, girlfriends, kids. We cannot do our job, as we did before the invasion. But everyone realizes that we have a more important mission now. Despite Russian advances, Maxsym maintains an iron resolve to fight. His friend Dmytro, who fought in the battle for Kiev, is in the capital. As students, the service in Donba is not compulsory.

As long as it's necessary to keep, we're ready to freeze in the holes, lose hearing. We are ready to die there, but we will get as much time as we should for the entire civilized world to beat Russia in non-military ways”, he added.

He does not have time for people who call themselves allies of Ukraine, who say they should exchange territory for a kind of accommodation with Vladimir Putin's Russia.

I think there's no way to make a deal with Putin. Putin only understands the language of bullets, blood, war crimes and something else. It is impossible to say take this part of the earth and the war will end”.

Maxsym has that his parents support him for his decision.

Now my parents understand 100%. I try to call him whenever I can. My mother sent a uniform for me and my brothers. Dad is 65 and too old to fight. They understand me, they support me mentally and financially”

Maxsym is turning into a first-line soldier, committed he believes in his life's mission.
