A cafe-bar in Florence, Italy, has been fined 1,000 euros after a customer complained about the price of an espresso cup.
The client called the police because the price for his coffee was 2 euros without caffeine. The man complained that the price had not appeared on the menu.
Francesco Sanpo, the owner of the local Artigianale Dita, spoke of the incident, defending its coffee, which he said comes from a small plantation in Mexico and “is very carefully prepared”. He argued that the price of coffee had appeared on a digital menu.
They fined me because someone offered to pay 2 euros for a caffeine-free coffee. Okay, can you believe that?
In Italy, the average cost of an expresso is 1 euro, though more than 70 per cent of bars raised prices at the beginning of the year due to problems in the chain of supply and poor harvests.
There was negative and positive reactions, but so far I have never been fined. No one should be scandalised to pay 2 euros for an expresso,” added Sanapo, citing the increase in cost of raw materials.
Some of the local clients also protected the owner, writes Guardian.
If this client goes to London, he'll call FBI” wrote one of them on Facebook.
