Russian forces are said to have been held up at night, while Ukrainian counterattacks have continued in the invasion that has reached eight weeks.
Meanwhile, Kiev has added calls for foreign assistance, following suggestions that Moscow has expanded its goals.
The military intelligence of Great Britain has said on April 23rd that Russian forces appear to have made little progress in the last 24 hours.
According to it, Russia's air and sea forces have failed to control the Ukraine's skies and seas, as they faced fierce Ukrainian resistance.
A stamp that writes “aimed at treason, lies, and fraud”, which is placed in a Russian soldier's military service brochure.
In a video address on April 22nd, Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has thanked states that have sent weapons to help protect Ukraine and has said the armed forces continue to halt attacks on the east and south of the state.
Ukraine's General Staff has said Russian forces have stepped up attacks throughout the eastern part.
“in the region of Donbass, Azov, Marioupolis and Herson is deciding the fate of this war and the future of our state”, Zelensky has said.
He has also added warnings that Russian President Vladimir Putin has other territorial goals in the region, in addition to the intentions of conquering Ukraine's birth and south.
The incumbent commander of Russia's Central Military District, Rustam Minnekayev, is quoted as saying according to state media on April 22nd that the full control of southern Ukraine is a strategic goal to enable access to Moldova's pro-Russian region, Transdniester.
His comments constitute the most detailed description of Russia's goals in the second phase of Ukraine's invasion, and have been cited by Kiev as a sign that the Kremlin has lied in initial statements when it said Moscow has no territorial ambitions.
Kiev has also mentioned that the Transdniester region could be used to organise Russian operations against Ukraine and Moldova, which shares the border with NATO member state Romania.
Russian troops are found in this region, despite Chisinev's objections.
Minnekayev has said Russian-speaking people are printed in Transdniester.
Moldova and leaders of the West repeatedly claim that this is not true.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry has dismissed Russian statements and has invited the Russian ambassador to talk to express Chisinev's “deep concern”.
“Moldova is a neutral state and this principle must be respected by all international factors, including the Russian Federation”, is said in the statement.
Meanwhile, Zelensky's office adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, has said negotiations on possible security guarantees for Ukraine by foreign partners are continuing to end within a week.
Podolyak said that “will have different packages of guarantees”, but “is important for us to have weapons, close the skies, have military consultations and money to buy additional weapons”.
Councillors of leaders of the United States, Britain, Turkey, Poland, Germany, France and Israel have expressed readiness to discuss a list of security guarantees for Ukraine.
We will defend ourselves as long as possible, but all states that as we believe in victory of life over death must battle with us”, Zelensky said on April 22nd.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk has said that “exists possibilities” for opening humanitarian corridors on 23 April in the town of Marioupolis.
It is estimated that 2,000 Ukrainian defenders are hiding in this city, with the aim of protecting the city from falling into Russian hands.
An adviser to Marioupolis's chairman has said the bombs are continually dropping at the Azovstal factory, where Ukrainian defenders are located.
On April 22nd, new satellite images have shown what may be the second mass cemetery in a nearby town, increasing humanitarian disaster concerns since Putin started offensive on February 24th.
Putin has ordered this week that Russian forces close Marioupolis so that “as also a fly” cannot pass into the destroyed town, which had about 500,000 inhabitants before the war began. / REL
