Russia's Defence Ministry has issued a statement saying their Mokva battleship, the main Russian fleet ship in the Black Sea, has been sunk.
It's still unclear if it's been hit by Ukrainian weapons. The ship is believed to have suffered significant injuries and is thought to have left for Sevastopol Crimea before it sank.
“Anija Moskva lost her stability when she withdrew to the port because of the damage to the ship's body that was seized during the fire by the explosion of ammunition. Under stormy sea conditions, the ship flooded”, the ministry announced.
Moscow is 186m long with nearly 500 crew members and is the pride of the Russian Navy on the Black Sea.
First praised in the Soviet Navy as the glory of the 1980s, the ship was renamed Moskva in 1995 and, after a renovation, reentered service in 1998, according to the military site. Navy-Technology.com.
The Moscow is armed with a series of anti-ship and anti-aircraft rockets, as well as Torves, sea cannons and missile defence systems.
Otherwise, Moscow is the second largest Russian naval ship to sink during the war in Ukraine.
Late in March, Ukraine announced that a missile attack had destroyed a Russian ship at the port of Berdyanski.
