This decision is seen as a sign of revenge against the same Berlin decision to expel the same number of Russian diplomats from Germany on April 4th.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has said it has sent German Ambassador to Moscow a protest letter for the hostile Berlin policies, as well as opposition to the expulsion of 40 Russian diplomats early in April.
According to the news agency dpa, this figure constitutes one third of the German diplomatic staff in Russia.
