The missiles used are believed to be of the Neptune type, which caused the shipwreck of the ship in the Black Sea waters.
The official said there is no clear view of why the ship's air defence was not introduced, but explained possible reasons why Russia's Navy pride collapsed, reports Skynews.

The four possible reasons why the battleship did not eventually respond:
The maintenance problems may have affected systems;
Air defence systems may not have been activated;
The rockets may have come from a angle that has avoided air defense systems;
One threat may have distracted air defense, as reported several times earlier.
In contrast, Russian authorities have claimed that the battleship proved useless because of a fire that swept over the board.
