She has said the US gives priority and supports the EU-backed dialogue that should be focused on reaching a normalised agreement focused on mutual recognition.
“We give great support to the EU facilitated dialogue to help Kosovo achieve a normalised relationship with Serbia focused on mutual recognition. Status-quo is unstable. This not only hinders the future of the two countries but makes the Kremlin good. Russia wants to destroy any democratic unity and consolidation in the Western Balkans, making sure that you and neighbouring states are not integrated into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. She believes that a more powerful, more prosperous and democratic Balkans will be a threat to its influence. The best way to counter the Kremlin's efforts to destabilise the region is simple, Kosovo and Serbia should co-operate urgently in the EU-attensive dialogue, which has a strong support from the US”, Donfreed said in press procurement after meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Donfried has reiterated that the US goal is to normalise relations focused on mutual recognition.
“Prime Minister and I discussed future steps and how important they are for the US in terms of dialogue. Our goal and yours is the normalisation agreement focused on mutual recognition. Therefore, it takes urgent, creative, flexible, sincere and trusting commitment from Kosovo and Serbia, which would bring long benefits to all citizens, including economic growth and long-term stability”, Donfried said.
She has added that the US and Allies are committed to stability in the Western Balkans and have said the mission NATO, KFOR is in Kosovo and cares for peace and stability.
It has also praised Kosovo's leadership to accept Afghan refugees and now express readiness to accept Ukrainian refugees. While it is also about listing Kosovo against democratic states by imposing sanctions on Russia for the war in Ukraine.
Donfried has also thanked Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who will attend the funeral of former US Secretary of State Madeline Albright. Kurt will travel on Tuesday morning.
