Putin said Russian gas buyers should open accounts in rubles in Russian banks and use them to make payments for gas deliveries from Friday (April 1st).
European countries, some of which rely heavily on Russian gas, have rejected the demand, and the German government said it constituted “quality”.
“I think this is basically just another indicator of the serious situation in which Russia's economy is located,”, Price told reporters at a regular press conference, adding that it is up to European countries to decide on their response.
Sanctions, export controls and other economic measures imposed in response to Ukraine's invasion on February 24th have had a key, substantial and deep “and led to “economic and financial whispering” on the part of Russia, Price said. / REL
