Russia's Defence Ministry has acknowledged that 1351 Russian soldiers have died since the invasion of Ukraine began, Russian news agency Interfax reported on Friday.
This is the first update since the ministry admitted 498 Russian soldiers were killed in the war and 1500 injured.
A confirmed figure of Russian victims is not yet clear, but analysts expect to be much higher.
American intelligence officials this week have given an assessment that over 7,000 Russian soldiers were killed in the war in Ukraine in late February, a number that would exceed the official number of deaths of Russian military for the first two years of Chechen war, which is remembered as a particularly brutal campaign.
