Erdogan offered to bring Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Turkey to facilitate negotiations to end the war, Turkish Presidential spokesman ʼbrahim Kalin said on Saturday in an interview for the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
Kalin said that while Zelensky was ready to meet, Putin outlined issues that needed to be resolved before negotiations were held at the leadership level.
The first “is the neutrality of Ukraine, that is, giving up NATO membership. Second, disarmament and mutual security guarantees in the context of the Austrian model. Third, the process that the Russian side refers to as the édenasisification. Fourth, removing barriers to the widespread use of Russian in Ukraine” has said Kalin.
Putin and other government officials have repeatedly pressed false charges against Ukraine in their pleas for the invasion of Ukraine, saying without any basis that the country should be “validated”.
Kalin added that Putin made two other demands that were the most difficult “ -- one was the recognition of the Crimea annexation and two “s called” republic in Donbas.
Kalin said these last two “issues are unacceptable requests for Ukraine and the international community”.
Kalin said Erdogan asked Putin that the ceasefire should become permanent.
Turkey's Communications Directorate said on Thursday that Erdogan offered to host the two presidents in Istanbul or Ankara, saying that “consensus on certain issues could require leadership-level talks”.
