Economy Minister Artana Rizvanolli has argued by saying the situation created in Ukraine adds to the unpredictable price of electricity supply to European markets and that it can be reflected in Kosovo as well.
The situation created in Ukraine further increases the inpredicability of the price and supply of electricity to European markets, and this can be reflected in Kosovo. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has shaken global markets over the past few days, causing increased oil and gas prices, and causing additional uncertainty in an economy that is already out of balance worldwide. Viewing this situation and the impact it continues to have on Europe that is getting worse, we as governments see the continuation of emergency energy supply measures” necessary, Rizvanolli said.
Rizvanolli has said the sanctions being imposed on Russia will have direct impact on gas and electricity prices.
On December 29, 2021, Kosovo's Assembly had approved the decision on emergency energy supply measures on a 60-day deadline. While on February 24th of this year, the government has prosecuted the decision to extend these measures for another 30 days. But this has been rejected by opposition parties.
The measure should not be continued here, and today this decision must be rejected. On the other hand, there has been sufficient transparency as to public funds spent on subsidies in the form of energy, we consider that this gives more arguments that these measures should not be continued. Consequently GP of The PDK will not receive at all in this vote”, PDK MP chief Abelard Tahiri has said.
While other opposition LDK have declared they will not participate in the vote.
“We, like LDK, will not participate in the vote and reject extending the mandate for emergency energy measures”, said Valentina Bulnjaku.
While Paul Lekaj from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has declared that they will support the continuation of these measures.
“We as GP say the continuation of these measures, taking into account the current state and energy crisis”, he said.
By contrast, the Assembly of Kosovo today has also adopted the Property Management and Confiscated Bill.
