The PKP Intercity offers free tickets to Ukrainians who have fled the Russian invasion.
By 12 p.m., we had issued 1,050,000 free tickets to Ukrainian citizens”, Tomasz Gontarz said at a press conference Wednesday.
This shows the extent of the demand that we're responding to by offering free transport,” he added.
Ukrainian citizens have been able to receive free economic class tickets on standard trains since 26 February.
The PKP Intercity has also added 5,000 cars to its 1,500 planned trains since the start of the crisis.
Gontarz added that the demand for railway tickets now coincides with that of the summer peak season.
By April, The PKP Intercity will modify the rules for free tickets, which will be available only to women, children, disabled persons and Ukrainian persons over 60 years old, broadcast PAP.
