Yonhap news agency, citing government sources, said North Korea seemed to be digging into “Tunel 3”, at its site of nuclear testing in Punggye.
Analysts had said in early March that satellite images showed signs of reconstruction, but that its restoration and operation could last months or years. Now, Kim Jong's regime may have changed its stance.
“Vervi suddenly halted his initial construction work to restore access to tunnel 3 and is digging the side of the” tunnel, Yonpha quoted a source as saying.
This way, it seems that it will be possible to restore objects within a month”.
Punggy is the only known site of North Korea's nuclear testing. The communist state conducted six nuclear weapons tests in tunnels from 2006 to 2017. The last and largest nuclear test in North Korea caused geology instability that caused numerous small earthquakes.
The event comes days after North Korea broke the UN ban and launched an intercstinctical ballistic missile. It was the first time since 2017 that North Korea had tested an ICBM and represented an important step in the development of Penian's weapons that may be able to hit US targets.
“Kim ordered testing due to the increased daily military operation in and around the Korean Peninsula and the inevitability of the long-standing confrontation with American imperialists accompanied by the threat of a nuclear war”, the state news agency KCNA said.
North Korea tested a record number of rockets in January and also appears to be preparing to issue a spy satellite, reports Guardian, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
Punggye has been closed since North Korea's self - imposed mortorium for nuclear weapons tests in 2018.
