The access to Instagram in Russia has been restricted to many users. The government announced citizens earlier in the day that the service will not be available following the decision of the internet regulator Roskomnandzor.
The decision comes after Meta, the Institute's mother company, has allowed users in Ukraine to post anti-Russian messages such as “death to Russian invaders”.
An email message from the state communications regulator told users to erase their photos and videos from the Instagram before closing and encouraging them to switch to Russia's “platforms competitive internet”.
Similar measures have been taken against Twitter and Facebook, reports Guardian.
