Bundestag member Knut Abraham has said Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe would be a step in the right direction.
He has even called on the German government to engage in the issue at the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers.
In a statement issued to the media, Abraham has said that after Russia's expulsion from this council, it is the right time for Kosovo to become a member.
Now we must also send the proper signal that we engage in human rights and democracy to Europe. Therefore, I call for Kosovo to be used, which is a new democracy, has signed the European Convention for Human Rights and respects the GEDNJ jurisdiction”.
Abraham said that given the war in Ukraine, war in the Balkans should not be imagined and that clear signals should be sent for that “we do not tolerate changing borders through violence and that protection of minorities and human rights should be strengthened”.
Kosovo's “Membership in the Council of Europe would be the right step”.
