Demarcation with Montenegro was ratified today four years

It is now four years since the Kosovo Assembly approved demarcation with Montenegro.

In the afternoon of March 21st 2018, with 80 votes for, 11 against and no abstention, the Parliament approved demarcation after four times due to tear gas shooting by Vetevendosje. Because of the gas drop that day, most VV deputies were excluded from the hearing.

The process of adopting the demarcation lasted three years and was preceded by a major debate, protests and numerous reactions from citizens, politicians and international people.

Kosovo and Montenegro signed the demarcation agreement in Vienna, Austria, in 2015. But until ratification in the Assembly, Kosovo went through various riots.

At the time, the opposition rejected demarcation through protests and tear gas in the Assembly.

This agreement was transformed into one of Kosovo's main conditions for visa liberalisation and was not voted into MPs until Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and his Montenegrin counterpart, Filip Vujanovic, issued a joint statement that envisions revision and improvement of eventual errors.
