This came after the proposal that Ukraine be admitted to the EU as soon as possible.
According to the Croatian president, everything must be done to prevent the crisis launched in Ukraine from expanding into the Western Balkans.
It is Croatia's strategic and national interest that states in Southeast Europe, which have declared and witnessed the readiness and goal of joining the EU, become members of the European Union as soon as possible. Therefore, President Milanovic has proposed to the open letter initials that EU accession candidate status be requested for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, and that the EU, after repeated promises, immediately start accession negotiations with Macedonia and Albania, which already have candidate status.
Also, negotiations with Montenegro must be accelerated”, the Croatian Presidency communiqué said.
As for Serbia, according to him, this state must now decide whether it wants to join the EU or not and follow the policy it appoints.
“As far as Serbia is concerned, at this important moment for European peace, that country must decide whether it wants real EU membership or not and follow its policy in line with circumstances. The EU needs to let it know that this is the moment of decision”, said in communiqué.
