Citizens in Hungary have laid out 300 old pairs of shoes on the Danube River coast in Budapest to commemorate lives lost during the shelling at the Marioupolis Theatre on March 15th.
Through a Facebook post, memorial organisers said the shoes were placed near an existing memorial “Shoes on the Danube coast of” , which commemorates the massacre of Hungarian Jews during World War II.
The Europeans must take all possible measures to end this tragedy. Until this happens, new shoes will appear here.”
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba described his gratitude to memorial organisers in a Facebook post, and said the activists were inspired by Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky's speech earlier this week at an EU summit in which he referred to the Hungarian Jewish memorial. Kuleba added, “History is repeating itself, right now, in front of our eyes. Therefore, it is not enough to like each other now, we must prove ourselves by concrete acts. ”/abcnews.al/
