Today, 23 years are filled by the founding of the 137 “Gjakova”, which constitutes one of the most important war chapters in Gjakova and Kosovo.
The establishment of this brigade was done at the command of Dukagjin Operative Zone Commander Ramush Haradinaj.
This brigade rose in the wake of KLA's bloody soldiers' requests for intervention in their town, with the aim of halting Serb military massacres and crimes against civilians in this municipality.
On March 28th 1999, from the village of Dasinoc, ZOD Commander Ramush Haradinaj gives the warrant by No. L8/862/99 for setting up the brigade-scale unit, appointed Brigade 137 “Gjakova” NLA, along with naming the command framework.
A day after the establishment, on March 29, 1999, this brigade of many armed members, each equipped with an additional weapon and weapons, was introduced into the city of Gjakova.
The brigade was divided into four groups, which were placed in four city positions, as the best strategic points possible for developing the military activity of this brigade.
The three groups and headquarters of the Brigades were located in the neighborhoods of Chabrat, and a group is located in Orize. In the context of the preemptive duties, the fighters of this brigade took numerous shares in protecting Gjakova's civilian population.
Spliting “The age of Chabrat” when in front of the enemy, at a close distance, on the 7th and May 9th, 17 martyrs of this brigade fell heroically
