Russia's Defence Ministry said the corridors were opened by 10am -- according to the time in Moscow -- by Kiev, Chernihivi, Sumi, Harkivi and Marioupolis -- from which some 200,000 people, or nearly half of the population, are expected to leave.
Sumi, located near Russia's border, some 350km east of Ukraine's capital, Kiev, has become the target of intense Russian bombings.
At least nine people, including two children, have died from an air strike in the city, Ukrainian rescue services said Tuesday.
Russia is declaring a ceasefire for humanitarian corridors, the Defence Ministry said in Moscow, the Russian news agency Interfax reports.
Ukraine's deputy prime minister, Iryna Vereschuk, confirmed the deal with Russia for opening a humanitarian corridor, which, he said, would enable civilians from Ukraine's besieged town of Sumi.
The streets and final destinations of the corridors are not yet clear.
