Vladimir Putin has warned that a nuclear war could erupt if Ukraine joins NATO and accused the West of full disregard for their concerns, hours after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Moscow.
Putin said he wanted to stress once again that “if Ukraine joins NATO, European countries would automatically be attracted to a war conflict with Russia”.
He said that the “states will not have time to close their eyes neither before they are called to NATO Article 5 which requires collective protection of members.
Putin also said he acknowledges that Moscow's military power was unmatched with NATO, but warned that Russia is one of the leading nuclear states and that there would be no winners in a heated war, Kommersant reported, writes Dailymail, records Clankosova. tv
Putin has spent months amassing about 135 thousand troops backed by tanks and artillery at the Ukrainian borders, prompting repeated warnings from Washington that he will conquer.
This comes after it was found that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is not planning to participate in the Munich Security Conference, which will be held on 18-20 February.
