Secretary Blinken welcomed Prime Minister Rama and expressed satisfaction with Albania's membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2022-2023. He praised Albania's commitment and contribution over the years to numerous United Nations bodies, to the benefit of peace and understanding among countries.

In particular, US Secretary of State praised the willingness of Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian government to provide shelter and hospitality to Afghan refugees in Albania.

I have to tell the prime minister what I have been impressed with and will remain for a long time, the fact that, at the beginning of the summer, after announcing we were leaving Afghanistan and ending the war there, you were the first to offer to wait refugees, Afghan survivors, and that's exactly what you did. This is a great honor for you and for Albania's generosity, which you offered a safe haven to over 2,000 Afghans. I am grateful for this, but also for the work you do every day in Europe for the security and strengthening of close ties, especially through NATO and, as I said, at the Security Council, where we have many challenging issues to work together”, Secretary Blinken said.

For his part, Rama thanked US Secretary Blinken and expressed satisfaction with the meeting held at the beginning of the year, marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and the US.

We value this friendship, this relationship as the most valuable thing. We are very proud to stand by you and help as much as we can, to return what you have done for us over the years, not only for Albania, but also for the Kosovo Albanians and Albanians everywhere. Thus, we are very proud to be your allies and will do our utmost to merit this special friendship”, Prime Minister Rama said during the meeting.

Prime Minister Rama and Secretary Blinken praised the excellent relations between the concrete countries in a series of partnership agreements of mutual interest and stressed the joint commitment to their further deepening.

Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for the successful co-operation between the United States and Albania in various areas.
