According to the White House, the American president presents this battle as very personal, after his son died in 2015 at the age of 46 from brain tumor. It was then that Biden launched this initiative, which he now wants to give “back to”.
“Cancer mortality has already decreased by 25% in the past 20 years, thanks to reduced smoking, but also improved treatments and diagnostics as early as possible. The US government wants to continue this effort and improve the available treatment of patients. The goal is “to end cancer as we know it today”, the White House said in a statement.
“Cancer Moonshot” will create a team of officials from various agencies to coordinate government actions, while the White House will hold a multilateral meeting and open a website.
Reports are expected to take place today during an event at the White House, attended by about 100 people, including researchers, association members and patients.
Vice President Kamala Harris and First Lady Jill Biden will also be present.(Applause)
