“It is important that all parties involved avoid any rhetoric or action that could cause tensions and escalate the” situation, said the commander of NATO's peacekeeping forces in Kosovo (KFOR), Angelo Michel Ristuccia.
“Solutions should be required through dialog”, he added.
On December 27th, two new barricades are located in northern Kosovo. A barricade was also set up on the Serbian side of the Merdare border.
Local Serbs, who have set up barricades in the north for 19 days, are incompatible with the arrest of former Kosovo Serb police officer Dejan Pantic.
His lawyer, Nebojsa Vlasic, has confirmed today to Radio Free Europe that his client has been replaced with house arrest.
The other barricades are located mainly on magical roads in the north that lead towards the Jarinje and Brnjak border crossings, connecting Kosovo and Serbia.
Since the barricades have been established, a number of incidents involving firearms, hand grenades and bomb friends have been recorded in northern Kosovo.
The target of the attacks has been members of the Kosovo Police, of the European Union's mission for Ending Law (EULEX), KFOR patrols and journalists.
The Kosovo government said in December 26th that it is in constant communication with the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, and is waiting for them to act, stressing that Kosovo Police have all capacity to remove the barricades.
