This petition, launched on December 13th, requires 25 thousand signatures to be finalised and sent to Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky.

There are also 84 days for these signatures to be fulfilled.

Goncharenko, a supporter of Kosovo's independence, has been the most vocal on the Ukrainian political scene for the recognition of Kosovo.

Ukrainian MP's petition:

In the context of the deteriorating situation in Kosovo and Serbia's aggressive policy towards Kosovo, I propose that Ukraine's President Voldymyr Zelensky review the recognition of the state sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

Why should this be done now?

Kosovo's independence is recognised by half of UN member states, including the United States, as well as most of the EU and NATO. In 2010, the UN International Court of Justice acknowledged that Kosovo's declaration of state sovereignty does not conflict with international law norms, violates no resolution and international act.

Russia does not recognise Kosovo, and it considers these lands Serbian. At the same time, Kremlin propagandists say the Balkans must be adjusted “in the Balkans, as Putin did on February 24th”. And representatives of President of Serbia Vucic's party spoke of “and the ratification of the Balkans”. Russia, together with Serbia, is trying to organise a war by correcting its actions on a national issue.

It is now that recognition of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo will prove Ukraine's support and solidarity in the fight for the integrity and terrorist sovereignty of that state. It will also show that Ukraine, along with the democratic world, supports justice and stands close to the truth.

My decision to recognise Kosovo's independence lies in Verkhovna Rada no matter what. Therefore, this petition, together with the public, requires the president of Ukraine to make the decision on Kosovo as much as possible
