Varhely hopes for results around visas by year's end

The European Commission, a day earlier, considered all criteria fulfilled for Kosovo citizens to be removed for entry into European countries. Oliver Varhely, commissioner responsible for the EU's neighbouring policy and enlargement the following day, said in an exclusive interview for ABC, that he hopes this will happen [...]
There's nothing that just comes from faith. Our faith comes only based on the work done. In turn, we are doing our utmost to do so. I also see a much bigger commitment from the Kosovo government. And I believe that this will result at the end of the year”, he said.
As for Albania, Warhel said the country has made progress in meeting the criteria for European integration, following the opening of negotiations on 19 July this year. However, he stressed that the political situation is always sensitive in our country and conveyed a message about this: for the two sides to work together.
While I have been following the political situation in Albania, it is constantly sensitive. The key criteria for us is to have agreement between the political forces for major reforms needed in the country for EU membership and reconciliation in the middle of the political class for that purpose. In Albania, European integration has never been in doubt and continued with reforms in Albania's Parliament and the Albanian government has been stable. I hope the country can continue on this round of”.
While Albania is in the process of bringing about legislation with that of the EU, Varhely stressed that full-fledged integration would happen when the country would deserve that; hence, it would have fulfilled all criteria.
“The subject is the same: how and when these countries can implement European Union legislation, what investments they will need to achieve and when they will completely comply with the rules and values of the European Union. So I see no difference between them. Therefore, the process is based on merit. Cross fingers for Albania to move the country forward. I see the positive impact of opening negotiations in the country and I hope the country will move even faster towards the EU”.
The Russian attack in Ukraine has set several other priorities in the first place in the report between the EU and the Western Balkans. Just on November 3rd, Commissioner Varhely will present a proposal by the Europian Commission for the energy supply of the Western Balkans.
“We are contacting our Balkan partners to learn what the main challenges are, they face in the energy field. According to this, we will make our proposal regarding renewable energy, energy efficiency, gas supply or energy from new supply countries. We hope, based on our commitment to Egypt, we can bring green energy from Egypt to the countries of the Western Balkans as soon as possible. We have a lot of other ideas. So I invite you to wait for November 3rd”.
