A new era of antiaircraft protection has started in Ukraine. This is just the beginning, and we need moreThe Ukrainian minister said.
In June, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised Kiev that he would hand over Iris-T systems capable of protecting a major city from air strikes.
On Monday, as Russian missiles fell on Ukraine, German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht assured that the first of these systems would arrive at Kiev “within the coming days” and three more in next year.
The Iris-T system offers a 20km-high and 40km-wide shield.
The German army itself has Iris-T missiles, but not the full land-air system. For its part, the US has promised land-air rocket systems NASAMS: Two will surrender in the coming weeks or months and another six as part of the long-term aid to Ukraine.
This Earth-air missile system NASAMS was produced by American Raytheon and the Norwegian Kongsberg Group. /Abc news
