Trump lawyer interviewed by FBI agents

Christina Bobb told federal investigators during the interview Friday that she had not drafted the letter, but that another lawyer of Mr. Trump, who said he had prepared it, had asked her to sign it in her role as the appointed legal guardian for Mr. Trump's data, said the person, who insisted on remaining anonymous because the case is still under investigation.

The process is of interest to investigators because the Justice Department says the letter was false in claims that all classified data required by the government had been found and returned. Although letters and 38 documents bearing classification marks were introduced to FBI and Justice Department officials during a visit to Mar-Lago on June 3rd, agents returned to his Florida home with a court order on August 8th and seized about 100 other classified documents.
According to an August court file, the signed certificate letter was presented to investigators visiting Mar-Lago on 3 June to collect additional materials classified from the home of former President Trump. The Justice Department had issued a warrant for the records weeks earlier, since it said it had found evidence that more secret documents had remained in Mar-a-Lago except those in the 15 boxes received in January by the National Archives Administration.

The letter to investigators stated that, in response to the Justice Department order, “conducted a detailed check of boxes that were moved from the White House to Florida” and that “all documents are associated with this certified” letter. The letter also included the statement that was true “based on information given to me”.

At that time, An envelope containing 38 classified documents, including those of a highly classified level, was presented to the FBI. But agents began to suspect that they had not received the entire amount of data and returned two months later to the home of former President Trump on a court order.

Lawyer Bobb told the FBI that the letter was actually drafted and prepared by another Mr. Trump's lawyer, M. Evan Corcoran, and that he had asked him to sign it in its quality as the legal guardian of the data, the person said under anonymity.

Lawyer Corcoran did not immediately return an email and phone message Tuesday. FBI and Justice Department spokespersons refused to comment, and lawyer Bobb did not immediately return a telephone message asking her to comment on the matter.

Interview first reported by network NBC News. The person familiar with this issue said it was a voluntary meeting with investigators and did not take place before a large jury and that it is not considered an objective of the investigation.

The Justice Department has said that, in addition to investigating the possibility of crimes related to the preservation of the secret documents themselves, it is also investigating the possibility of attempts to obstruct this investigation.
