In Pristina, at the meeting of the LIBSEEN Steering Committee, representatives of Croatia's main liberal parties, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, etc. At this meeting, which brought together parties in Southeast Europe that share liberal and democratic values, with the PDK proposal as a member, the Committee has adopted the Declaration for Support of Liberalisation of Visas and Candidate Status for Kosovo.
“Passy has entered the crucial phase of decision-making, LIBSEEN calls for urgent approval by the European Council of visa liberalisation for Kosovo citizens in line with the European Commission's proposal of July 18th 2018, given the fulfillment of all 95 criteria. We remember the European Parliament's stance in favour of visa liberalisation of March 28th 2019 and subsequent calls on resolutions dealing with Kosovo”, the Declaration adopted by LIBSEEN in Pristina said.
Furthermore, LIBSEEN considers that lifting the financial and administrative visa burden will significantly and directly affect contact among people and thus foster more academic, cultural and business exchanges between Kosovo and the EU. Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi has said that this Declaration, adopted today in Pristina by the South East European Liberal Party Network, is important and helpful for the inflow of the protracted but deserved process for the free movement of Kosovo citizens.
“Today we adopted a joint declaration addressing Kosovo's European perspective, including absolute support for visa liberalisation, but also Kosovo's application for candidate status. I had the satisfaction of having Mr. Jakic from Slovenia discuss also topics related to specific states in the region, ending with their strong support for Kosovo's membership process in the Liberal Alliance of Democrats party, which is expected to take place during this year”, Chairman Krasniqi has said.
LIBSEEN leader Roman Jakic from Slovenia, former Yugoslavs and former Minister of Defence Slovenia, has said that through this statement a clear message of European Union decision-making bodies is intended to act urgently on visa liberalisation and granting candidate status for Kosovo.
The “is really shameful for Europe not to accomplish what we have promised the people of Kosovo, and secondly, we have discussed Kosovo applying for candidate status in the European Union. Because after yesterday, when Bosnia and Herzegovina took over, let's say the European Commission's positive recommendation to the Council for this, we do not want to see only the state of Kosovo outside this process. So, I think Kosovo can start, it should start, however, the membership process, and become part of the European Union”, Jakic said.
The PDK was fully joined in the Southeast European Liberal Party Network on May 14th 2022 at the Meeting of the Steering Committee held in Sarajevo.
