Various nongovernmental organisations and charity communities support this day by calling on leaders and government officials to make the fight against poverty a priority in their agenda.
October 17, 1987, is the date when more than 100 thousand people gathered in Paris to honour victims of extreme poverty, hunger and violence, Kosovo broadcasts.
Although October 17 was recognized as an official day in 1993, in many other countries this day has been commemorated since 1987.
