This year without new cases of child abandon, SOS village is working on prevention.

In the SOS Children's Villages this year, there were no new cases of child accession, while two other children were taken into adaptation. In some Kosovo countries, it is trying to prevent the abandonment of 700 children who are at risk of being neglected. While 34 children abandoned by parents are already living in a larger family. So says Kosovo Press the leader of Alternative Care at the SOS Villages of Kosovo, Besnik Peci. He adds that 5,000 children and mothers offered services in order to prevent abandonment.

During 2022, Kosovo Police have recorded 70 cases of mistreatment or abandoning a child.

“Based on PC Information System data, for the number of cases reported by Article 243* Mistreating or abandoning a child is like the following: During 2021 98 children have been abandoned, meanwhile during January-September 2022, 70 children”, the Kosovo Police response reported.

Kosovo Alternative Care Leader Besnik Peci tells Kosovo that during this year there have been no new cases of child accession.

In SOS we have 34 children in the villages of Kosovo currently, in which eight SOS families are located, in which we have created and designed and prepared them to grow and develop. We also have 12 children who are currently part of the semi-independence programme. These are actual numbers, while since 2022 we have had 41 children who have benefited from long-term care and 15 children who are part of the semi-independence programme”, says Peci of Kosovas.

SOS Kosovo Children's Villages offer support programme for young people who reach maturity, age 18.

In the cases that have been placed on us, but in 2022, we have two cases that went through 2022. And as a result, the 36 has dropped to 34 and currently we have 34 children”, he relates.

In SOS Children's Villages, the baby is currently not being sheltered. But from 2001 to two years ago, about 500 babies have been sheltered in these facilities.

Peci in the Kosovo Press interview shows there are hundreds of new cases being supported in order to prevent abandonment.

Among other programmes, mainly the family strengthening programme in Pristina, Gracanica, Kosovo Fushe we cover approximately 700 other children who are at risk of losing parental care. We work with their families, so we can reduce abandonment. These projects that I have mentioned are running for several years, operating and operating in Kosovo. And as a result, the results of this prevalence are seen because it's worked hard on preventing”, Peci declares.

He says that to reduce the number of children being abandoned last year, they started with a new project that is unit “mothers and Fosne” even through this unit.

We've probably had about 5,000 grand that we've reached with you to offer services and to house here with their mothers... Consequently, via the “Mother and Child” program, we've managed to reduce the number of dropout because if those women didn't receive the services we've offered them, they'd potentially be at risk for those kids to be abandoned”, Peci finished. /kp/
